The activity of the Energy unit of EISENBAHN-CERT starts at the overhead contact line, continues with the interface between overhead contact line and pantograph and ends at the interaction between traction current network and train.

Since the 1st of December 2002, when the TSI came into force, the number of certificates for interoperability constituents and subsystems has increased up to more than 100 now. The first certificates for the interoperability constituent contact overhead contact line issued to Siemens and Furrer&Frey already in December 2002.

In that time it was foreseeable that we will not only be acting in Germany. Constituents certified by us are used in other EU Members States, as well as constituents fromother countries are certified by us.

Remarkable projects are for example the overhead contact line type EAC 350 for Spain, the Swiss overhead contact line types FL 200 / FL 260 and the overhead conductor rail type F&F. Also for the interface constituents pantograph and contact strips we could issue numerous certificates to well-known manufacturers like Faiveley, Stemmann, Schunk, Hoffmann-Elektrokohle or Pantrak.

The projects HSL ZUID (Northern and Southern section) in the Netherlands were an important highlight in the certification of subsystems. The overhead contact line of the type SICAT H1.0was certified beforehand for this project.

In all these projects we could demonstrate our competitiveness, in particular as several lines for the German part of the trans-European high speed network had to be assessed and certified simultaneously. These projects could have been finished successfully due to the close cooperation with our associated partners, in particular DB Systemtechnik and the Siemens Testcenter in Wegberg-Wildenrath.

In Germany all verifications of subsystems for new and upgraded lines as well as connecting lines have been finished successfully.

With the section Rastatt (Süd) – Ottersweier of the upgraded / new line Karlsruhe – Basel the first part of a corridor line in Germany was assessed and certified by us in 2004. Just in time for the football championship 2006 we issued the EC verification for the upgraded / new line Nuremberg – Ingolstadt – Munich and the upgraded lines Hamburg – Berlin, Berlin – Leipzig and the junction Berlin to the applicant DB NetzAG.

After this successful acid test we received further applications for large scale projects fromDB NetzAG.

With these applications our customers appreciate our performances. On the other hand they are challenges to continuously improve the quality built up in the recent ten years, and to implement the European processes for the interest of all participants effectively. This applies in particular when the lines of the conventional trans-European rail system are subject to European rules in near future.
